Welcome, Wilkommen, Bon Jour, Dobro Pozhalovat, Irasshaimase!
I am very glad you found my website, and will now be able to peruse all of my books in one spot, without tirelessly searching on Amazon and Goodreads. As you can see, my non-fiction is all American Civil War related, but my fiction includes horror story compilations, featuring not only my own work but other authors as well. I served as contributing editor for those. The other fiction is time-travel romance and Civil War related. The Return to Brickendon Manor was intended as a 3-book trilogy, and I have just begun to write the 2nd installment, The Troubled Peace.
OTHER JONATHAN M. JACKSON BOOKS
Annabelle the horse almost deserves her own book. I got so attached to that horse that I felt pain when Roland mentioned losing her later on. The author has a gift for making even the animals feel real.
The best part is how honest Roland is. He tells everything without polishing it up. He jokes, he curses, he doubts, he gets tired, he gets brave again. He feels human, not like a perfect hero written for drama.
Roland’s personality jumps off the page. I found myself laughing at his jokes, getting angry when he got brushed off by officers, and cheering when he found his rhythm in the cavalry. He is a simple man with a huge spirit and that makes the book shin
What struck me most was the authenticity. You can tell the author comes from generations of people connected to this history. The passion is real. The research is deep. The storytelling is powerful. It feels like heritage
The chapters about the build up to the war were some of my favorites. The tension, the confusion, the political arguments in little towns, the fear mixed with excitement. It felt like watching history unfold in slow motion.
The book is long, rich, and dense in the best way. If you love American history or family stories passed down from generation to generation, you will adore this. I learned more from Roland than any textbook ever taught me.
I did not expect a Civil War novel to have this much warmth. The family history, the letters, the backstories, the pride. It felt like sitting by a fire listening to an old relative retell the past with love and fierce loyalty.
